We are really excited to add a new area to our blog that is aimed at children and families.
Starting in 2017 we hope to work with local schools to create a resource of recommendations that will help to guide your child’s reading choices. Watch this space or use the ‘Kids Zone’ section on the left hand side menu for recommendations, events and project news.
Summer Reading Challenge 2017
Bury Libraries are once again supporting The Reading Agency’s Summer Reading Challenge. The really exciting news is that this year we are also having a fabulous prize draw!
The scheme is aimed at Primary school children and its purpose is to encourage kids to continue reading over the long summer break; maintaining and developing on all of those skills and good habits you have just spent all year learning!
As this year is 100 years since the birth of Roald Dahl, and we are all eagerly awaiting the release of the new BFG film, it seems only right that the theme of this years challenge is The Big Friendly Read.
So the best news yet is that it is totally free to take part, you just need to be a member of your local library to sign up and start reading! You only need to read six library books to complete the challenge and win a certificate that you can take to school. That has to be worth a few extra house points! (Why not suggest this to your Head Teacher and see what they think.) There is even a cool web site that you can use to get top recommendations and record the books you have read.
Better still Bury Libraries are excited to announce that all of our members who complete the challenge will be entered into a prize draw. The gifts we are giving away are:
A Kindle Fire
£20 Tesco Voucher
£10 Book Token
Set Of Roald Dahl Books
So go on give it a go! Put down your electronic, technological toys for a bit and give reading a try; there really are no limits to where books will take your imagination!
